31 Persons Killed On Ogun Road Accidents, As TRACE Rescues 100 In 47 Emergency calls

No fewer than 31 persons (15 males, 16 females), were killed in road accident within Ogun State between December 15, 2019 and January 15, 2020 , the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) on Saturday disclosed.

According to a release signed by Director, Traffic Planning, Research & Statistics,
Commander Ajayi Michael Babatunde, made available to The Voice Magazine 100 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 47 emergency calls received by the Ogun sta TRACE Corps.
The report further noted that a total number of 80 road traffic crashes involving 11 private cars, 10 private buses, 13 commercial buses, 15 commercial cars, 6 motorcycles, 1 tricycle, 12 medium trucks, 11 heavy truck and 13 other vehicles were recorded.
It further stressed that 41.93% of the Road Traffic Crashes was caused by Excessive speed, 23.78% by Dangerous driving, 10.99% by Bad tyres, 3.33% by Driving Against Traffic and 19.97% by other causes.
According to the report no fewer than 88 motor vehicles and 39 motorcycles were apprehended for 163 offences.
In his response during an interview with The Voice Magazine, the Corps Commander / CEO 'Seni Ogunyemi, said the state traffic outfit has engaged in activities towards ensuring improvement on the report with specific attempt geared towards drastic reduction in road accident this year.
He said the high rate of accident recorded during the period in question was due to Ember months rush which is usually induced by many factors including over-speed and driving against the traffic.
Ogunyemi said TRACE would be tough with motorists who have penchant for traffic disobedience.
He harpped on proper maintenance of vehicles before dragging on the roads, while recalling latest accident at both Ogbere and Sango in which 9 and 2 lives were lost respectively.
The Corps Commander said TRACE would subject articulated vehicles to more and proper monitoring surveillance and ensure a situation where a loaded tanker fell and surmersaulted at Okegbara Ogere, with PMS, and another at Ifo, which also somersaulted into the bush after mechanical fault does not repeat itself.
