ABIODUN ABSORBS 1,000 WORKERS ENGAGED BY AMOSUN

...shows magnanimity to 18 last minute perm secs
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has ordered that the last minute appointments of Permanent Secretaries made in the twilight of the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun be regularised.
The Governor also directed the mainstreaming and ‘regularisation’ of appointment of over 1000 graduates recruited into the State Civil Service by the same administration.
Speaking at the swearing-in of eight newly appointed Permanent Secretaries at Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Prince Dapo Abiodun said despite some flaws noted in the appointments and recruitments, his government has decided to be magnanimous as a people-centred administration not to be vindictive.
"It is important to make public that we received with great recommendations the report of the Review Committee on the Appointments and Recruitments made by the immediate past administration between February and May, 2019.
"Let me state that we very much appreciate the recommendations of the Review Committee, comprising of eminent retired Public Servants, that the appointments and Recruitments were fraught with non-adherence to the principles and laid-down traditions of the public service.
"But in line with our administration's commitment to equity, fairness, Justice and inclusiveness, we will not engage in any action or policy that may be viewed as vendatta, rather, we will call on all to continue to put in their best for the service delivery to the people of Ogun State.
"Despite some flaws, we have upheld all the appointments of Permanent Secretaries made in the twilight of the last administration.”
Governor Abiodun cautioned against lobbying by civil servants to attain unmerited position, saying all the new permanent secretaries got their appointment on merit.
“I never met any of these new permanent secretaries before. I had no private discussion over who to chose. If you merit it under my watch, you will surely get your promotion as and when due”, he enthused.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries were chosen from the directors’ cadre in the state civil service. They include Ms Fadimitu Olusola, Engr. Ojetola Razak, Mr Sodeinde Olukunle and Sotubo Olurotimi. The rest are: Orekoya Bolaji, Lukan Jubril, Benson Lateef and Sorunke Dotun.
There was palpable tension among workers in Ogun State when in August last year Governor Abiodun set up a committee led by a former head of service, Chief Dipo Odulate to look into the appointment and promotion of approved by former Gov. Ibikunle Amosun between February 1 and May 28, 2019.
Recall that Amosun had in April appointed 18 permanent secretaries, barely a month to the end of his administration and also appointed over 1,000 workers into the state’s civil service, while he promoted 5,000 government workers.
But Abiodun, while inaugurating the committee at his Okemosan office Monday, said the feedback received by his administration on the appointment of some people into state’s public and civil services was unsatisfactory, hence the setting up of the committee.
He noted that the state public service, renowned for its professionalism, commitment and dedication, would be provided with the right type of leadership to enable it perform optimally.
However, one of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Engr Razak Olabode Ojetola, said he was elated because he felt sidelined all this while, as he got his last promotion five years ago. He had also became cynical that he would make it to the position of permanent secretary because of perceived institutional encumbrances against “civil servants without connections”.
“Of those appointed last only one was my senior. Three were my colleagues on the same levele and the remaining 17 were my juniors. I am excited that people who knew nobody like me could make it to the pinnacle of their carreer. Thank God for Gov Dapo Abiodun”.
Ojetola said he was the first in his native Imasai, in Yewa North Local Government to become permanent secretary.
In the same vein, the Governor also directed that the Civil Service Commission and he Office of the Head of Service “to come up with modalities for the regularisation of those newly employed between the same period covered by the House ouse of Assembly resolutions with a view to normalising their appointments".
He urged the new Permanent Secretaries to see their elevation as a call to greater service to the State, adding that they are to serve as standard bearers in the State public service.
"As the Accounting Officers and Administrative Heads, you are all enjoined to make probity your watchword, and be prudent in the management of both human and material resources under your care", he advised.
Prince Abiodun called on them to interface between the administration, public service and the general public and come up with more initiatives that would lead to the successful implementation of the administration's 'Building Our Future Together agenda.

Bola Tinubu Says Its Wrong To Discuss 2023 Presidential Election Now

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, yesterday described the agitation for presidency in 2023 in this early hours of President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term as wrong and untimely.
He told State House reporters in Abuja after holding a closed-door meeting with the president that anyone who had the interest of the country at heart would not be discussing issues bordering on the 2023 presidential election now.
Tinubu, while responding to a question on his perception about the clamour by some northern politicians to retain presidency in the North at the expiration of Buhari’s tenure in 2023, said all that every well-meaning Nigerian should be pre-occupied with now is the delivery of democracy dividends to citizens.
“That time is not now. We have just finished one election and Mr. President is busy sorting out the budget, working for the people of this country. Of course, restlessness of politics is going to be there, but any lover of this country will not talk about the succession plan yet. That’s the truth. Concentrate on working for the country; help the president to help the country. There’s nothing more than that,” he added.
Tinubu also spoke on Buhari’s repeated denials of third term ambition, saying anyone who had worked with the president knew that he would never attempt to alter the constitution to elongate his stay in office beyond the constitutional stipulations.
He accused those making the insinuations of a Buhari Buhari third-term agenda as detractors who thrive on suspicion.
He stated that he could vouch for Buhari as a man of courage and character who would never nurse such an ambition.
However, he said even though he could go anywhere to argue with anybody against alleged plan by the president to run for third term in office, it was better that he’s personally denying the insinuations as he urged Nigerians to believe him.
“Any reasonable politician who had worked with President Muhammadu Buhari will know that he will not (tamper with the constitution). Detractors are always suspicious and will make accusations, but I was in the trenches, in the struggle for democracy.
“I was in the trenches and in the opposition with Muhammadu Buhari, till the third-term agenda of a former leader of this country failed. I know he will never. He has the courage and the character to refuse such a temptation even if offered to him. I believe in him and I believe Nigerians should also believe in him.
“He doesn’t need to say it to me, I’ll argue it in the corner and everywhere they bring such a thing up. However, it’s very good to hear it from him. I say congratulations to a man of character and integrity. The challenge of turning the ship of this nation around is a continuum and a continuous effort and that is what we should get ourselves concerned with,” he said.
He described the president’s new year message as apt, noting that the government has a responsibility to work for the people and progress of Nigeria.

Celebrating An Amazon - Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele @ 54

By Oluwaseun Boye

A Scotish author, Radio and Television presenter, William Barclay once said, “There are two great days in a person’s life, the day we are born and the day we discover why”.
The occasion of the 54th birthday of the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele today, presents an auspicious avenue to thank Allah for His faithfulness in the life of the Amazon.
An amazing woman, full of life, Salako-Oyedele, a prominent daughter of Aworiland, Ota, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State, was born to the family of late Prof. Lateef and Mrs Rahmat Adebisi Salako, on 8th January, 1966.
For her education pursuit, she attended the prestigious Queen’s School, Ibadan, between 1976 and 1978 and soon proceeded to International School, Ibadan between 1978 and 1981 for her GCE O’Level/WASCE Certificate. She thereafter gained admission into the University of Lagos, where she studied Civil Engineering between 1983 and 1987 and bagged a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree.
In her quest for further knowledge, the Deputy-Governor enrolled for a Master’s degree in Public Health Engineering from the Imperial College of Science & Technology London, UK. While at the United Kingdom, she served as a Graduate Engineer and Project Manager at Ove Arup & Partners between 1989 and 1995.
Also, she served as Managing Director, NOS NIGERIA LIMITED between 1995 and 2014, where she engaged in the construction of numerous projects, ranging from office, commercial, to industrial and residential buildings for the Federal Ministry of Health, Lagos State and Ogun State Governments respectively.
She is a multi-talented professional with over three decades of proven track records of experience in Consulting, Contracting and Real Estate Sectors.
A highly cerebral goal-getter with a wide range of experience in developing and implementing effective strategies in project management, Engr. Salako-0yedele was a former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer between 2014 and 2015 at Glenwood Property Development Company Limited where she served as General Manager Business Development.
She became the Acting Managing Director, GRENADINES Homes Limited, in 2015, a position she held until she ventured into partisan-politics and emerged as the Ogun State Deputy-Governor.
When the position of Deputy Governor was zoned to Ado Odo Ota Local Government, after wide consultations by Prince Dapo Abiodun from far and near as well as across political zones, Noimot Salako-Oyedele was found to fit in to the position.
In March 2019, she was elected by the good people of Ogun State to serve as Deputy Governor to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun. It is interesting to note that Salako-Oyedele, apart from being the only female Deputy-Governor in the South West of Nigeria currently, has contributed in no small measure to the vision and mission-statement of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration geared towards building the future of the Gateway State together.
Upon assumption of office, she has embarked on a tour of some rehabilitation projects of public primary schools in the state where she expressed concerns over their deplorable conditions, especially their structural deficiencies, the unconducive learning environment where children were taught, amongst others. Thus, as a result of her findings, well over 100 public primary schools have been rehabilitated in order to meet up with modern standards.
As an Engineer with proven track records, she is always at the beck-and-call of her boss, Prince Dapo Abiodun, offering professional advice on engineering-related issues and one of such is the state of the bad roads which had, in the recent past, brought untold hardships on the residents of the State, especially during raining season, identified some of the problems, the causes of flooding and reported same to the Governor, in areas that need quick intervention.
With the emergence of the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA), the people of the State are now re-assured of government’s determination and readiness to bring succour to their way, through various interventions of the Agency.
In the area of empowerment, the Deputy-Governor promises to always do the needful at ensuring that the womenfolk is not only empowered but also not left out of the scheme, at ensuring that their personal prosperity is improved.
At the launch of one of the State government’s empowerment initiatives tagged “Oko’wo Dapo”, Salako-Oyedele said that the scheme was furtherance to the fulfilment of the electioneering promises made by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and noted that majority of their followers are mainly women.
“The scheme works within a cluster of ten women, whereby the sum of ten thousand naira is presented to them and they make returns of five hundred naira each after two weeks.
This process revolves round 20 weeks after which the women would have saved the sum of ten thousand naira as well as return their initial credit which will enable them upgrade and access higher loan facility”, she averred.
Salako-Oyedele at different fora has tasked Nigerian women not to only take up roles in trade unionism but also participate in active politics, as a way of contributing their quota to nation building, she said women were great pillars in the society and should take up active roles in governance,
Addressing her professional colleagues lately, she charged the Association of Professional Women Engineers(APWEN)to be role models by encouraging younger girls to take up challenging careers like their male counterparts, describing engineering as a notable profession that is worthwhile, noting that no resources or sacrifices were too much to empower the girl child in nation building, emphasising her commitments towards encouraging the women folk not to sit on the fence.
No doubt, she is a round peg in a round hole, a worthy partner in building the future of the gateway State to an enviable position. The good people and government of Ogun state, especially, the Olota of Ota, HRH Kabiyesi Oba Abdukabir Obalanlege, and the Aworis are so blessed with an intelligent daughter of Aworiland to paddle the canoe, to assist His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun to a safe berth.
Noimot Salako- Oyedele is happily married to Alhaji Bode Oyedele, an APC chieftain and a retired Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Civil Service. Their union is blessed with wonderful children.
Her Excellency is a devout Muslim, a socialite and an active member of Lions Club.
Here is wishing you a lifetime of wisdom, hope, courage and strength.
Wonderful birthday to the best of all bosses!
Dear boss, may your life be filled with so much happiness, support and kindness you give away so freely.
Just as Dr. Seuss, an American writer said, “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is life to celebrate. Today, you are you, God gave us the gift of life, it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well”
Congratulations and Happy birthday to Her Excellency , Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
