‘#EndSARS Protesters’ Block Ifo Roads Over Buhari’s Broadcast

Some persons claiming to be #EndSARS protesters on Friday blocked various roads in the Ifo area of Ogun State over the broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari on the protest against police brutality.

The so-called protesters took the action following what they described as their disappointment with the president’s broadcast.

President Buhari had on Thursday made a nationwide broadcast following the violence that greeted the #EndSARS protests across the country in its second week.

Nigerians across the federation had protested for the past two weeks under the #EndSARS movement, clamouring for the scrapping of the now-disbanded Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (F-SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as an end to police brutality and extortion in the country.

The president had in his broadcast called on the protesters, who are mainly youths, to stop their protests and leave the streets, saying that their demands on police brutality have been heard.

The president, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was, however, silent on the shooting incident at the Lekki Toll Gate, which occurred on Tuesday.

Soldiers of the Nigerian Army were seen in videos circulating online shooting at the #EndSARS protesters at the Admiralty Circle Plaza of the Lekki Toll Gate.

Following the broadcast, the aggrieved persons expressed their grievance, claiming that it was a clone and not President Buhari that spoke to Nigerians, a journalist, Oluwasegun Newsroom Abifarin, who is also a resident of the area, reported on his social media page.

The purported protesters subsequently blocked all roads in Ifo, thereby preventing people from going to their destinations.
