2020: No offender shall go unpunished, says Ogun TRACE boss

The Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Olaseni Ogunyemi, has said no road traffic offender shall go unpublished this year 2020.

He said the Corps would not relent from embarking on all strategies that would continuosly reduce deaths and injuries on all roads in Ogun State.

He made this known through Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) statistical reports rolled out from his office for the last yuletide.
He said: "The Corps has recorded between Sunday, December 15, 2019 and Wednesday, January 15, 2020, a total number of 80 road traffic crashes.
"The crashes involved 11 private cars, 10 private buses, 13 commercial buses, 15 commercial cars, 6 motorcycles, 1 tricycle, 12 medium trucks, 11 heavy truck and 13 other vehicles.
"About 291 persons were involved in the road traffic crashes, out of which 160 persons (96 males, 64 females) sustained various degrees of injuries, 31 persons (15 males, 16 females) killed and 100 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 47 emergency calls received by TRACE Corps."   
Commander Ogunyemi stressed that 41.93% of the crashes was caused by excessive speed, 23.78% by dangerous driving, 10.99% by bad tyres, 3.33% by lane indiscipline or driving against traffic and 19.97% and others. He added that about 88 motor vehicles and 39 Motorcycles were apprehended with 163 offences. 
He apppreciates the unflinching support of the Traffic Whistle Blowers throughout the State for their ever prompt information whenever there is any crash on our roads.
He appealled to road users to always strictly obey all traffic rules and remember that road is patient but does not forgive.
