TACKLING INSECURITY IN THE SOCIETY, POLICE ADVISES PARENTS TO TRAIN THEIR CHILDREN

Parents have been advised to pay more attention to their children, train and always caution them in order to curb insecurity in our society.


Speaking at the security lecture organized by the Baale Jamiu Olatunji Komolafe, the Baale of Ipamesan-Oke, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Ogun State, the Sango-Ota Police Divisional Officer, Godwin Idehai, the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) said the rate of insecurity and social vices in the country is increasing because parents failed in their duty to train their children.

The police boss lamented on the lackadaisical attitudes of some parents towards their children. He said some parents have never visit their children in their school to know what they were doing, the friends they relate with.

CSP Godwin identified various reasons why many youths involves in social vices, parents not checking their children school bags to know what they keep inside, not checking them in their room to know what they keep under their bed, not teaching them what moral values is all about. "We will continue to experience social vices such as rape, armed robbery, banditry in as much parents fail in their parental duties" he said.

The police officer condemned indecent dressing of youths without parents condemnation. "It is so pathetic that some parents will buy indecent clothes for their children, while children will even buy it themselves and their parents will not condemned it rather they will say, it's their time, this is very bad" he lamented.

As parents, when you fail in your capacity to nurture them, they will join groups and society which will later be inimical to our security as a society.

CSP Godwin, therefore urged parents to always monitor their children if we want to enjoy adequate security in the society.

In the same vain, CSP Godwin appealed to the people to always give adequate information to the police. He said this will help them in tackling insecurity. The gallant officer told the people that the police work with information. "How can we know if your community is not save. How can we know some cultists were oppressing your community if you don't give us information. Police work with information, I want to beg you to always give us adequate information and not fake news"

In his answer to one of the attendees that asked that police always divurge information given to them by informant. The DPO said that it is not true that police will divulge any information given to them. He said information should be given to either the DPO or DCO. He said, the two are the senior officers in any division and assured them that nobody of that status will divurge the information. He thereafter rolled out the numbers of the two officers.

On the issue of rape, he advised parents to always monitor their female child. He told the audience not to allow anybody to play with their female child or send her on errand.

In his appreciation message, the traditional leader of the community, Baale Olatunji Komolafe appreciated the DPO for honouring his invitation by coming to lecture the leaders of his community on how to make the society save from insecurity. He enjoined the DPO that he will try his best to make sure that his community is free.

In his words, "I want to sincerely appreciate you my gallant and ever performing DPO for your effort to make our society free from crimes and criminals. Your urgent response to my distressed calls during the total lockdown when some cultists were terrorising my community is highly appreciated. You led your team to comb the community and make it save. I equally appreciate you for finding time to honour my invitation to today's lecture. God bless you. I know with people like you in Police Force, no doubt, we will all enjoy adequate security"

The Ota Chairman of PCRC, Mr. Kunle Faniyi appealed to the community to render support to the Police so that they can meet up with any distress calls. He mentioned that the patrol vehicle that is faulty in the stion.
In his response, Baale Komolafe promised to repair one of the faulty vehicles on behalf of his community.

Baale Komolafe equally briefed the gathering the outcome of the meeting of Ado-Odo/Ota Local government council of Obas and Chiefs with the Chairman of the Local government.

The traditional leader informed the people that the Chairman, on behalf of the State governor, informed the meeting of the traditional rulers that the State government is planning to start the numbering of house and data collection. He appealed to the community leaders to cooperate with the government in order to carry out this exercise especially as regards the payment of 1000 from the government.

The lecture was attended with over 50Community Development Association leaders. Among them were, Mr. Kunle Faniyi, the PCRC Chairman of Ota.
