Sanwo-Olu Relaxes Curfew On Lagos

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos, has announced a relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state in the aftermath of the violence that greeted the #EndSARS protests.

Speaking to journalists at State House, Marina, on Friday after conducting an on-the-spot assessment of destroyed buildings and properties across the state, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced that residents of the state will be allowed to move from 8am to 6pm from Saturday.

He said: “We have decided that we are going to be easing the curfew from tomorrow (Saturday) morning, and what that easing means is that people will be allowed to go out from 8am to 6pm.

“For emphasis, from 8am tomorrow morning, you will be allowed to go out, to go wherever you wish till 6pm in the evening.”

He stated that the curfew was not fully lifted because there were still “pockets of violence” that security agents need to deal with before movement can be fully permitted across the state.

He disclosed that the curfew will be revealed over the weekend before a further announcement concerning its status will be made on Monday.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had imposed the curfew following the violent turn of events which the #EndSARS protests across the state took as some suspected thugs have launched attacks on peaceful protesters and vandalised properties, insinuating that the protests may have been hijacked.

Nigerians across the federation had for the past two weeks been protested under the #EndSARS movement, clamouring for the scrapping of the now-disbanded Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (F-SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as an end to police brutality and extortion in the country.
